Jon Meade Huntsman, Jr. is an American businessman, diplomat and politician who served as Governor of Utah . He sought the Republican nomination for president in 2012,[1] but withdrew from the race before the South Carolina primaries. [2] The libertarian Cato Institute has praised his tax policies, but criticized his spending.[3] He supports civil unions for homosexuals[4] but claims to be pro-life.[5] He has stated his belief in both Darwinism and man-made global warming.[6] Having almost no chance of winning the nomination,[7] Huntsman may simply be an attempt to siphon support away from Mitt Romney.

However, in the economic sphere, he is more conservative than the leading candidates such as Romney and Newt Gingrich, as he fully supports Paul Ryan's budget and would repeal ethanol subsidies, a failed liberal faux-environmentalist program.

Liberal Barack Obama appointed Huntsman as his ambassador to China. He was previously ambassador to Singapore for George H.W. Bush. He served as the governor of Utah from 2005-2009.
