Deregulation

Deregulation, strictly speaking is a reduction of government control over an industry. Often the term deregulation is used as a synonym for restructuring (see also reform).
The term is sometimes misused, for example by the supposed "deregulation" in California which added heavily regimented controls leading to a shortage of electricity there in the 1990s under Gov. Brown.
